  1. Quick guide and simple tips to control DIABETES

We all would know people in our family and friend circle who are having Diabetes, and this is not good ☹. It means that this not a rare disease anymore, and in fact every 1 of 3 people are having diabetes these days. Today, diabetes takes more lives than AIDS and breast cancer combined. More common are the side-effects of the medicines these diabetic people take. Moreover, people who keep on taking these medicines for long become insulin resistant!

So, what is the alternative? One of the best alternative is Ayurvedic system of treating Diabetes, that includes drugs, diet, panchakarma and exercise. Millions of diabetes patients have managed their blood sugar levels with Ayurveda and have avoided onset of major health complications caused because of neglecting timely treatment for diabetes.

In this article, we help you in understanding the root cause of your diabetes, and share a few tips to proactively take steps to manage and treat it with Ayurveda:

    Type 1 Diabetes
    Type 2 Diabetes

    What is Type 1 Diabetes?

Immune System Attacks: With type 1 diabetes, the body’s immune system attacks part of its own pancreas. Scientists are not sure why. But the immune system mistakenly sees the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas as foreign, and destroys them. This attack is known as “autoimmune” disease. These cells – called “islets” (pronounced EYE-lets) – are the ones that sense glucose in the blood and, in response, produce the necessary amount of insulin to normalize blood sugars.

Insulin Therapy: So, a person with type 1 treats the disease by taking insulin injections. This outside source of insulin now serves as the “key” bringing glucose to the body’s cells. The amount is based on many factors, including:

    1.Food
    2.Exercise
    3.Stress
    4.Emotions and general health
Balancing Act: These factors fluctuate greatly throughout every day. So, deciding on what dose of insulin to take is a complicated balancing act. If you take too much, then your body burns too much glucose — and your blood sugar can drop to a dangerously low level. This is a condition called hypoglycemia, which, if untreated, can be potentially life-threatening.

    What is Type 2 Diabetes?

The most common form of diabetes is called type 2, or non-insulin dependent diabetes. This is also called “adult onset” diabetes, since it typically develops after age 35. However, a growing number of younger people are now developing type 2 diabetes (Diabetes Mellitus). People with type 2 are able to produce some of their own insulin. Often, it’s not enough. And sometimes, the insulin will try to serve as the “key” to open the body’s cells, to allow the glucose to enter. But the key won’t work. The cells won’t open. This is called insulin resistance. Treatment focuses on diet and exercise. If blood sugar levels are still high, oral medications are used to help the body use its own insulin more efficiently. In some cases, insulin injections are necessary.

    Diabetes in Ayurveda

Diabetes or “Prameha” in Ayurveda is divided into 20 types, based on the predominant Doshas in the body. This sums up to 4 types caused due to Vata, 6 types caused due to Pitta and 10 types caused due to Kapha. Prameha when not treated leads to “Madumeha” which is the Diabetes Mellitus (Type 2).

The three main divisions of Diabetes according to Ayurveda – Kaphaja, Pittaja and Vataja of Prameha and Madhumeha are:

    1. Kaphaja:This causes indigestion, lack of hunger, flu, running nose, lethargy and vomiting
    2. Pittaja:This causes pain in the bladder leading to urinary tract infection, fever, acidity, diarrhea and sleep apneas
    3. Vataja:This causes severe cold and cough, breathing problems, constipation, fatigue, sudden tremors or chills and insomnia.

A healthy diet that includes adequate and essential nutrients, along with herbs and food that is low on sugar can be the best way to get this disease under control. Ayurveda believes that one needs to live healthy to feel content, hence, a change from the sedentary lifestyle to a more active one can help in preventing and curing diabetes.

    Causes of Diabetes:

1.Diet increasing Kapha Dosha such as sugar, fats, potatoes, rice
